Recently, I got so pissed off during the process of ordering a drink.
Kopitiam guy: Mahu minum apa? (What do you want to drink?)
JJ: Air suam (Plain water)
Kopitiam guy: Sky juice ka? (Is it sky juice?)
JJ: (WTF…..) Yalah! (Of course!)

Man! What’s going on with the water and sky juice culture nowadays? When I said I want a glass of water, you think I don’t know what’s sky juice is it? Or is it just because you don’t know what is a water but sky juice??? Shoot man…..
In Malaysia, sky juice is defined as plain water and normally in Kuching, they charge 20 sens for a glass of water. When I heard about sky juice for the first time when I was small, I thought it was rain water direct from a sky. Sky Juice = juice from sky. Eh, don’t tell me you never thought of that when you heard it for the first time. Nowadays, whenever you go to most of the kopitiam in Malaysia and you happen to order just a glass of water, don’t be shock if they ask you again to make sure if it is a sky juice. Actually sky juice has a lot of definitions and you can just type out that word on your google to see a list of it. Imagine what’s on their mind when they heard of sky juice for the first time in their life:
1. Serving water while dancing to that sky juice reggae music
Sky Juice: A popular Jamaican drink with special vibes on it; an artist from Jamaica

Yaw, why the heck did they copycat the sky juice name from the Jamaican drink eh? Our local water got special vibes too that can make you drunk ah?
2. Or worse, rain water

Yea you better add salt to that before you drink it or else, your stomach will rumble itself to find its exit door out of your body system. I just cannot imagine the conversation between a foreigner and the kopitiam guy who take order his drink:
Kopitiam guy: Arlo sir! What you want to drink?
Foreigner: Just a plain water, please.
Kopitiam guy: Ah…..you mean sky juice?
Foreigner: No no. Just a plain water.
Kopitiam guy: Yala…it’s water la.
Foreigner: What??? I saiddd plainnnnnn waaaaateeerrrrrr.
Kopitiam guy: Aiya still the same la…sky juice ma….
Foreigner: What sky juice??? It’s PLAIN WATER!
Kopitiam guy: SKY JUICE!
Foreigner: PLAIN WATER!!!
Kopitiam guy: SKY JUICEEE!!!
Foreigner: For gooooodnesssss sake, I AM NOT GONNA DRINK THE RAINWATER OF YOUR TROPICAL COUNTRY!
Kopitiam guy: Oh chehhh…sky juice is not a rainwater laaaaaaa. It’s also water la. Just that we got used to call it sky juice because it sounds coooooolllll. Yeahhhhh!
Foreigner: ………. So, can you pleaseeeeee get me a sky juice?
Kopitiam guy: OK! Sky juice satuuuuu!!!!!!
Now, imagine the other way round where a Malaysian orders a sky juice in some foreign country…..gosh, bless him.
No offence to the trend of calling it sky juice, and sometimes even me myself would follow the trend. However, the kopitiam workers trying to make sure that water is a sky juice, is just one stupid, ridiculous irritation to someone like me. What do you guys think about it?
For goodness sake, it’s just a glass of water.
